Performing arts

I dabbled in acting and singing for four and a half years. My vocal coach was Tara Simon, a contestant on the hit show, The X Factor.  I used to perform regularly, and I recorded a cover of Sia’s “Bird Set Free” at my studio in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to performing, I wrote and continue to write my own songs.

Writing

At the age of seventeen, I wrote a novel and a collection of children’s stories, both of which I am in the process of editing. After I read through my novel, I will be sending it to my Aunt, a fantasy writer, who will make final corrections. Eventually, I plan on self-publishing my writing and selling copies on Amazon.

Acroyoga

In the summer of 2016, I began enjoying the benefits of acroyoga. Every Thursday evening, I attend a two hour class with individuals who have dedicated their lives to the practice of yoga. I also allot time over the weekend to participate in intensive workshops.

Mental Health Week

After four hospitalizations over the course of five months, I determined it was time for me to use my pain and suffering to benefit others. I decided to organize a mental health week, which will take place in 2018. The week will be dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness. I would like to create a judgement free environment in which students let go of preconceived notions and feel comfortable sharing their experiences. There will be a presentation from a renowned psychologist, and activities will include yoga and art therapy.

Magazine Journalism

Over the summer, my advisor and I began constructing our school’s first online magazine, The Eye. As the editor-in-chief, I have spent countless hours navigating the website and guiding the rest of the staff through the process. I have also written several articles and given the other students feedback on their writing.
